Xóc Ðia, which is also known as Shaking the Plate, is a gambling game which has a history dating back over one hundred years. It’s one of the favourite gambling games played in North Vietnam. There are several variants of Xóc Ðia – some of which require equipment to play and some of which don’t. The first way this game can be played is a simple even-odd game that is played with dice.

The second way this game can be played is using a plate, four coins and a cup. When playing the plate, four coins and a cup, the players will often ask that cups are changed every now and again in order to change their luck. The coins are often marked with different symbols or colours and are sometimes made out of different materials depending on where the game is being played.

How to Play Xóc Ðia

First, the dealer will lay out the four tokens on a plate that is sitting in front of the player or players. They will then cover up this plate with a bowl so the players cannot see the tokens underneath. The dealer then picks up the plate with the bowl on top and tokens inside, turns it upside down and shakes it repeatedly. The dealer then tells the players to place their wagers. Once the players have placed their wagers, the dealer will shake the bowl one more time before placing it back down on the table. The dealer then removes the bowl so the player can see which colours or symbols are showing on the tokens. Finally, the dealer pays out to the winners and collects from the losers. The whole process is then started again.
