  5. Dead Heats

In the case of a dead heat for any position, the total points involved based on the number tied shall be divided evenly among those tied.
Example: If the dead heat is for second place involving two cars, the points from second and third place shall be added together and divided by two to obtain the points awarded for a dead heat for second place. Fifty five (55) would be the number of points awarded each driver; there would be no third place points awarded in that event. Points shall continue starting with fourth place, etc.

  6. Ties

Ties in the final point totals shall be resolved on the basis of each driver's record of first place finishes; then if necessary, second place finishes; then if necessary, third place finishes. If two or more drivers have accumulated the same number of first, second and third place finishes in the races counted, they shall be considered tied for the position in the standings.

  7. Points Awarded to Multiple Drivers

    1. For races scheduled for one hour or less in duration, points shall be awarded to one driver per car based on finishing position. When more than one driver competes in a car, neither shall be awarded points.
    2. For races scheduled for more than one hour in duration, points shall be awarded to each driver registered and competing in a car, based on the finishing position of that specific car. A driver who competes in more than one car per race must declare, in writing, to the chief steward or designee before the competition begins which vehicle’s finishing position shall be counted for championship points. The finishing position of only one vehicle per competition can be designated to count for points If any driver competing in more than one vehicle in a competition fails to make the vehicle declaration before the competition begins then no championship points will be awarded to that driver in any class.

  8. Restricted Regional Races

SWDiv Road Racing Championship points will be awarded at restricted regional events involving specific competition classes selected by the SWDiv organizing region. Providing:
    1. The restricted regional race is at least as long as a typical regional race
    2. The restricted regional race is placed on the Division’s competition calendar at least 90 days prior to the event.

  9. Special Point Accumulation Rules
    1. Each Championship class will accumulate points in a limited number of events. Driver’s points totals will be based on their best finish in a specific number of events designated by class.
    2. For the 2006 / 2007 racing season drivers in all Regional and Restricted Regional Classes will earn points based on their best finish in a maximum of 80% (rounded upward) of the total races run for their class.

  10. Championship Trophies

    1. A first place trophy, for each class of car eligible to compete in Regional and Restricted Regional Competition events, will be awarded to the driver who accumulate the highest point total in a class providing the first place driver is classified as a starter in at least 50% of the Regional and Restricted Regional Competition events scheduled for that class during the 2006/2007 racing season.
    2. A second place trophy, for each class of car eligible to compete in Regional and Restricted Regional Competition events, will be awarded to the driver who accumulate the second highest point total in a class providing the second place driver is classified as a starter in at least 50% of the Regional and Restricted Regional Competition events scheduled for that class during the 2006/2007 racing season.
    3. A third place trophy, for each class of car eligible to compete in Regional and Restricted Regional Competition events, will be awarded to the driver who accumulates the third highest point total in a class providing the third place driver has competed in at least 50% of the Regional and Restricted Regional Competition events scheduled for that class during the 2006/2007 racing season.
    4. In those highly subscribed classes additional finishing positions beyond first, second, and third can be awarded trophies using the following formula: Multiply 15% times the number of season long competitors who are classified as starters in at least 50% of the Regional and Restricted Regional Competition events scheduled in that class. Round the resulting number up to determine the possible number of finishing positions to be awarded trophies. Under this paragraph, for a driver to be eligible to receive a fourth or subsequent place trophy they must have been classified as a starter in at lease 50% of the Regional and Restricted Regional Competition events scheduled for that class during the 2006/2007 racing season.
    5. The Southwest Division Corporation will furnish no other trophies, other than those described above, for Regional and Restricted Regional Race Competition during the 2006/2007 racing season. However trophies will be made available for purchase by those competitors who are otherwise eligible but based on the provisions of paragraphs 10 (a), (b), (c), and (d) would not be awarded at Southwest Division Corporation expense.
